About us
A History of J & B MaterialsIn the 1970’s our Founder Robert J. Young (a.k.a. Bob) worked stocking building materials in Colorado. He followed his soon to be wife to San Diego where he started his own Stocking Business called “J&B Drywall Stocking Company”. With building relationships, reputation, high standards and with willing partners; J & B Materials, Inc. was founded and incorporated December 4th, 1979. Located in El Cajon California.
With the motto: “Where Service is the Key” J & B Materials, has continued to grow, becoming truly a family business. In the early 80’s Bob acquired all shares of the company as employees like to joke the “J & B” becoming “Just- Bob” Materials, Inc. Together with his wife and children they built this business based on relationships, service and trust. Our customers and employees have truly become a part of the “J & B” family.
In 1986 a second branch in Escondido California was established. In the year 2000 J & B acquired Tracy Building Materials also located in El Cajon, expanding our services in our Lath, Plaster and Cement line of products. Tracy Building Materials soon merged into J & B Materials, Inc. By combining the service and location we were better suited to meet our customer’s needs. In 2005 we expanded into Riverside County with the acquisition of Tri-County Building Materials, now known as J & B Materials. We opened up our fourth branch in El Centro, California in 2006.
Today we continue to add new building material products and technology providing our customers with the best possible service and products. Our business is about Relationships and Service. Without these valued relationships that have developed over the past 30 years, we would not be where we are today. We value our long time friendships and our new ones too. You will still find J & B Materials, Inc. to be a family business with Bob’s children: son Jeff as Vice President and daughters Nikki, Kristin, Kylie, and daughter in-law Amy all contributing their father’s mission and vision of this company. Here we are family and we’ll take care of you!
J & B Materials is a Founding Member of AmarokAmarok is a national buying Co-op. for Independent Building Material dealers across our nation. J & B joined Amarok so that we may provide our customers the best product for a competitive price, better service and latest in technology. Our Customers benefit through our membership with Amarok allowing us fleet purchasing power, insurance quotations, group knowledge and information sharing which are all important factors that have allowed
J & B continued success in this growing industry.
California Building Material Dealers is an organization owned and operated by its members. They joined together to develop confidence, promote communication and gain group influence to benefit its members and the building material industry. Members personally gain by getting to know each other and by sharing ideas, problems and information concerning our businesses and our industry. J & B Materials, Inc is a proud member as our President Bob Young has served as president of the CBMDA in 2004 and currently serves as Vice President.
